Three records, three different corners of the map — and every one of them moving right now. The Ohio Valley's most commanding voice puts his area code on record. Philly's underground prodigy just wrapped his first headline tour. And Charleston's sharpest new pen just dropped her freshest single. This week's class has momentum you can measure: sold-out rooms, fresh singles with real press behind them, and a festival-season paper trail. No filler, no vibes — just the records worth your attention.
L-Heckto H-Donuts
Steubenville, Ohio — "Little Chicago" — finally has its anthem. L-Heckto H-Donuts, the independent rapper building his Donuts Entertainment imprint from the Ohio Valley, released "740 Anthem" in September with a cinematic official video that plays like a short film about the neighborhoods that made him: the 33rd District, Sherman Avenue, the Ohio Valley streets that built his story. AllHipHop spotlighted the record on September 23, framing it as a visual declaration for the 740, and HipHopSince1987 picked it up the same week. An in-depth interview on The Hype873 on October 7 digs into the single and the imprint he's building behind it.
The background reads underground: time with Raw Intellect, opportunities connected to Wu-Tang royalty — Ghostface Killah — and years on the Ohio Hip Hop Awards Tour. But there's no major-label machinery here, no platinum plaques, no national chart entries. Just an independent artist with a hometown anthem that carries real weight. It's the kind of gritty, firsthand street record that hits in a DJ set.

slayr
Philadelphia's slayr is having the kind of year the underground talks about. The 19-year-old was named to the 2026 XXL Freshman class in June, then spent August and September on his first-ever North American headlining run, the Half-Blood Tour — selling out the 1,200-capacity Irving Plaza in New York and adding a second date for September 3. antiMusic reported the tour launch in June; WOOSTER paired the announcement with his new six-track Avant Nova EP, out July 10 on Columbia with the opening track "promise" co-produced by electronic artist underscores.
The sound is rage rap with a mythology-sized imagination — Pitchfork gave Half Blood (Bloodluxe), the expanded March edition of his breakout 2025 mixtape, a 6.7 and called it maximalist, crowd-pleasing rage. HotNewHipHop has been on the EP since it dropped. Add Summer Smash and Rolling Loud Orlando to the ledger, and slayr has moved past "internet rapper" without releasing a single album — mixtapes and EPs only.

Trim
Charleston, South Carolina has its next star, and she's barely a year deep. Trim — part of the same 2026 XXL Freshman class as slayr — went from rapping on TikTok in 2024 to a BuVision/Atlantic signing and a debut year that The FADER called "almost inescapable": "BOAT," "Coconut Water," "Nobody," "Get Hit." Her latest, the surprise single "CAKEY," landed October 6, and The FADER framed it as a taste of things to come ahead of her long-teased debut album Pass the Tiara. The momentum stacks fast: "Nobody – Remix" with Monaleo was one of Spotify's top five most-streamed summer songs on Feelin' Myself, per Ratings Game Music on September 24, and Hip-Hop Vibe reported this week that Trim and Monaleo star together in True Religion's "Baddie" campaign. Fun fact for the crate-diggers: Trim released "Chröme" featuring slayr — yes, the same slayr above — making this week's edition a two-for-one.
