Three cities, three lanes, one rule: the bar doesn't move. This week's Ones to Watch lines up a 2026 XXL Freshman straight off Chance the Rapper's anniversary tour, a Detroit rapper whose viral video just became a live performance moment, and a Def Jam lyricist from East Orange loading up his next single. Every pick below cleared the same bar — real momentum in the last 30 to 60 days, at least two verifiable sources, and a record you can play right now.
La Reezy — New Orleans' Freshman on the Coloring Book Anniversary Run
New Orleans has a new standard-bearer, and his summer never slowed down. La Reezy, a 2026 XXL Freshman, released his debut album Skiddle Bandana on July 7, 2026 via UnitedMasters — then hit the road as direct support on Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book 10th Anniversary Tour, which Pollstar reports runs August 11 through October 11, 2026.
The co-signs read like a festival lineup: Jon Batiste, Master P, Tyler the Creator, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar have all put weight behind the New Orleans MC. Wooster Magazine stamped him with their cosign badge. This year he also landed on Busta Rhymes and J Dilla's Dillagence II, appearing on the track "Entry," and took home the inaugural Rap's Next Generation Award from The Hip Hop Museum.

Fuze Da Henchman — Detroit's Viral "Catch Up" Becomes a Stage Record
Detroit keeps producing. Fuze Da Henchman turned his "Catch Up" video into a viral moment — OnTheSceneNY reports the visual spread fast enough to introduce thousands of new listeners to his music — and then proved it wasn't a fluke by performing the record on Hopped Out The Chair. WeTheWest and The R Report both flagged the momentum on October 1, 2026, as the track kept gaining traction across platforms.
The Detroit native (Instagram: @mr_hpilla, 13,507 followers as of October 2, 2026) runs with Lowkey Hussle Gang, and "Catch Up" has the replay value that makes a record stick — infectious beat, memorable hook, charisma to match.

Chris Patrick — East Orange's Def Jam Pen Game, Loading the Debut
Chris Patrick doesn't waste bars. The East Orange, New Jersey MC — a 2026 XXL Freshman in the same class as La Reezy — dropped "Check Me" via Def Jam on August 28, 2026, the single leading into his debut album, as uDiscover Music reported.
The resume keeps stacking: his Pray 4 Tha Underworld run, soundtrack placements on GOAT and Scary Movie 6, and a co-sign from Nas — the kind that still moves the needle in New York. XXL's freshman cypher put his pen in front of the culture, and "Check Me" is the cleanest entry point yet into what he does.
