From the MixShow Prime vault: our 2014 interview with Big Tigger. From the Bronx to WPGC to BET's Rap City and Atlanta's V103, he reflects on a 20-year ride and where radio goes next.

Starting off as a DJ in the Bronx to a career as DJ on WPGC in DC the BET Rap City, how would you describe you career thus far?
My career has been an amazing 20 year ride!! I've been blessed to have my talents and abilities appreciated for nearly 2 decades. Much love and appreciation to those that have supported throughout the years!
Your personality seems to be what made you a favorite on both Rap City and 106 & Park. Since your departure both shows seemed to have taken a turn for the worst with Rap City being canceled all together. If you got that p
Being a mainstay in DC, you're now on Atlanta's own V103. What's the difference in the two markets?
Atlanta is the new Hollywood. Movies, TV, music, and everything else between is in abundance down here.
Lets talk breaking records. What do you think is the key for artist to be heard?
These days its about making a hot song that can be played in the club if you want a lot of exposure. The emphasis on lyrics and concepts are as prevalent as they were. Individualism is a bonus as well.
I hear DJs say that the streets dictate the airwaves. How true is this?
Its 50/50 these days. Alot of songs come out of the club and off mix tapes before there are any clean versions for the radio to play. In the same breath, radio play influences the masses. There are many songs that radio makes into a hit record due to airplay.
You've interviewed alot of talent over the years, who's still on your wish list?
Prince, Barack Obama (in person, I've done 2 interviews over the phone), Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Derek Jeter. Ive done just about everyone else with the exception of those who have already passed away.
Alot of artist still dont know the correct way to approach a DJ. Whats the most effective way to get a DJ's ear?
It depends but definitely not while he or she is eating lol...
Alot of DJs feel that artist should pay for exposure, especially on mixtapes. How do you feel about this?
To each their own. If you have a platform and you wanna charge people to use that platform, its well within your rights.
As a FM alternative, alot of online stations are popping up. More and more mixtape DJs are now online radio DJs. Whats your thoughts on this growing trend?
There are some real quality online stations out there and more power to them. There are alotta music lovers online and variety is always needed.hone call from BET, would you consider introducing Rap City to a new generation?
I would love to bring back Rap City but the powers that be at BET have no plans to do so unfortunately. 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of Rap City and I at least hope BET does one of its most popular shows the justice of a proper celebration!
Since your back into radio. What was it like coming back full circle?
Well, I didn't fall back to it, I never left radio. Its where I started my career and has always ben a mainstay and a favorite hustle of mine. I appreciate the constant interaction with the listeners and possibly altering someone's day for the better by playing a song or making them laugh!!
