The Wire for Friday: a record-tying run for Bruno Mars, a Fresh Prince origin story headed to TV, Gunna's first single of 2026, and the radio lineup for one of the biggest game launches in history.
Bruno Mars Ties "Luther" for the Longest No. 1 Run Ever
Bruno Mars has officially entered the history books. Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart dated October 10 shows "I Just Might" spending a 31st week at No. 1, tying the all-time record set by Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "Luther," which logged its own 31 weeks across 2024 and 2025. No other song has spent as long on top in the chart's 68-year history.
The numbers behind the run: the track picked up 5.3 million official U.S. streams, a 51.9 million airplay audience, and 1,000 song sales during the September 25-October 1 tracking week, according to Billboard. "I Just Might" debuted at No. 1 on the chart dated January 24, and only one song has knocked it off the top since: Drake's "Janice STFU," which held the spot for seven weeks from May to July. The two records have owned the top two positions for 18 straight weeks.
The single led Mars' fourth studio album, The Romantic, which arrived February 27 and opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It's also topped Pop Airplay and Rhythmic Airplay, and peaked at No. 2 on Adult R&B Airplay. One more week at the summit gives Mars the outright record — the October 17 chart, tracking October 2-8, is the one to watch.

Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff's Comeup Story Is Becoming the TV Series "215"
The Fresh Prince origin story is headed to television. Deadline revealed on October 6 that Westbrook Studios — Will Smith's production company — is developing a scripted series titled "215," inspired by Smith's early life and his rise alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff in Philadelphia's Wynnefield neighborhood. The title nods to the city's area code.
The coming-of-age series follows a teenage rapper and his DJ best friend as they come up through the city's late-'80s and early-'90s hip-hop scene, chasing a record deal while fame tests their friendships and hometown ties. It's the first project from a new film and television partnership between Westbrook and Canadian production company The Malar Group, which will finance and develop the slate together.
"215 is especially meaningful to us because it draws from the rise of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince and celebrates Philadelphia during such a defining era in the city's late-'80s/early-'90s hip-hop scene," said Terence Carter, Westbrook's president of television. The series is still in development — no network, cast, or release date has been announced.
The real-life backstory is hip-hop royalty: Will and Jeff met at a West Philadelphia house party in 1985, dropped "Parents Just Don't Understand" in 1988, and won the first-ever Grammy for Best Rap Performance in 1989.

Gunna Returns Friday With "Pop It" — and Coco Gauff's in the Video
Gunna is back on the release calendar. The Atlanta rapper drops his first official single of 2026, "Pop It," on Friday, October 9, across all major streaming platforms. An official music video arrives with it, featuring tennis superstar Coco Gauff alongside SB The Label signees Casper Bluff, Nechie, and Dracc.
He's been teasing the record across social media and live sets for weeks. The rollout caps a year spent building well outside of music: a Men's Health cover, the Wunna Run 5K in Atlanta, wellness partnerships with Cymbiotika, Flerish Hydration, and PATH Water, plus Peloton and a creative-director role at Under Armour.
His latest album, The Last Wun, has topped 371 million streams in Sub-Saharan Africa since release, according to the release's press materials — a reminder that "Pop It" lands with a global audience already listening.

GTA VI Reveals Six Radio Stations — Trick Daddy and Trina Run the Southern Lane
Rockstar Games turned up the volume on October 8, revealing six in-game radio stations for Grand Theft Auto VI — billed as the biggest and widest-ranging selection in franchise history. For the first time in the series, players will also get on-demand podcasts, available both in vehicles and on foot through the characters' smartphones and headphones. Previews of all six stations are live now on Rockstar's official music page.
The headline for Southern rap fans: Dirty South Classics, a regional rap and hip-hop station hosted by Trick Daddy ("Trick") and Trina, loaded with David Banner's "Like a Pimp" featuring Lil' Flip, JT Money and Solé's "Who Dat," and DJ Khaled's "Born N Raised" featuring Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, and Pitbull.
The rest of the dial: Cocoteo FM goes Latin with Bad Bunny ("El Martillo") and RaiNao ("La Gata"); Flash FM runs pop with Robyn and Alex Consani; Back Country Radio plays country with Morgan Wallen, Lana Del Rey, and Jeremy Dufrene; AfroBank FM moves African music with Burna Boy and Palms Trax; and The Chamber 106.6 handles metal with Slayer's Kerry King and Tom Araya. GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a 34-track original album arriving alongside it.
