The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul just put her legacy in new hands. Primary Wave Music announced Monday (October 26) that it has partnered with Mary J. Blige on her catalog compositions and recordings — a deal that covers the full run of one of R&B's defining catalogs, from What's the 411? to "Family Affair."
What the Deal Covers
Through the partnership, Primary Wave will work alongside Blige and her team on new music marketing, branding, digital and synch opportunities, and Blige's team will have access to the publisher's marketing and publishing infrastructure, according to Billboard. The catalog in play is deep: 15 studio albums, two live albums and 83 singles, per the press release, including "Family Affair," "My Life," "Mary Jane (All Night Long)," "You Bring Me Joy," "Be Happy," "Be Without You" and "I Can Love You."

"From the moment I heard 'You Remind Me' on NY's KISS-FM, I became a Day 1 Mary J. Blige fan," Primary Wave chief content officer Natalia Nastaskin said in a statement. "For over 30 years, she has gifted the world with hit after undeniable hit and in the process has created the soundtrack of our lives. To partner with the Queen herself on her extraordinary catalog and her everlasting legacy is an honor for me and for our entire Primary Wave team."
Why It Matters
Blige has sold more than 50 million records worldwide, won nine Grammy Awards from 37 nominations and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024. Her 1992 debut, What's the 411?, is certified four-times platinum by the RIAA, and she has charted 14 top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, including four No. 1s. This is a partnership, not a reported sale — financial terms were not disclosed in the announcement — and it lands while Blige's Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM, which kicked off in May, runs extended through February 2027.
